Pre-Event Announcement: Aug 29

Hey Stitchers!  Great to see you again in this neck of the woods, and I am very, very thrilled to see more people who appreciate and support the arts and crafting communities.  Sometimes it's easy to get discouraged, because handmade cross-stitched pins, hair accessories and other forms of mayhem in yarn isn't always as sexy and supermodelly (is that even a word?  If Palin can make up "refudiate", then hell yeah, I think it'll work) as politics or international spy work.

But make no mistake about it... YOU are why I wake up in the morning looking forward to making these fantastic bits of sunshine like:

...I mean c'mon, you'd have to be Florida Gov. Rick Scott not to like these guys.  So for everyone who has hit the NTS blog, visited (and favorited) the NTS Etsy shop, joined us on Facebook and Google+, or just said "Hey, when's your next event?"...

...a huge and hearty "THANK YOU!!!!!"

So here's the deal, Sparky... this Saturday from 8AM-12PM, we'll be at the Wildwood Growers Market for their weekly event (although the WGM is weekly, we will at best be there twice a month due to the other fairs and festivals we've got scheduled).  And as anyone who has spent time in a festival or even Disney World knows from experience, actual hard cash is a valuable resource especially if you're walking around in the Florida mugginess.  You don't want to run out of dollar bills for water or food or something like that, and paying for a bottle of water with a credit or debit card seems a little ridiculous.

Why not stop by the Nick The Stitch tent, buy stuff, and SAVE 10% (and your now freed-up cash) automatically by paying with your credit or debit card?

Yes, we will still take cash, but if you pay for your entire purchase (no split-payments) using your debit or credit card, I will knock 10% off your final price right then and there.  You don't have to ask.  You don't have to haggle.  You just pay with your card.  It's that easy.

And it's all powered by the folks at Square.  Gotta love those guys, and when you see your savings on the receipt, you will tooNick The Stitch will be offering this deal at every fair, festival, and market as long as the organizers will let us, so this isn't a one-time deal.

So let Nick The Stitch help you save more than money, this could help make the trip to the Growers Market.

Stay awesome, and see you Saturday!

NTS September Events Announcement!

Greetings Stitchers!  A big hearty welcome to all the new readers and a huge thank-you to the returning ones, hope your weekend is super awesomeness in a keg!  Down here in Florida we've got Isaac heading our way but don't worry... after surviving Andrew back in 92, this is nothing.  In fact, we're going to be using the downtime to make a lot of stuff for the upcoming events.

So here's a little something something for your enjoyment....

WWLD... What Would Ladybugs Do?

Okay, I said there'd be a huge events schedule announcement, and I have it right here in my hot little hands.  (Well, technically a keyboard but a mere technological technicality.)  Wrote a blog about it, wanna hear it, here it go...

September 1st, 8AM-12PM: Wildwood Growers Market (100 N. Main Street, Wildwood, FL 34785, right near the City Hall building off 301).

September 15th, 8AM-12PM: Wildwood Growers Market (100 N. Main Street, Wildwood, FL 34785, right near the City Hall building off 301).

September 22nd, 9AM-3PM: Nine Mile Pond Festival (Lake Lillian in Belleview, FL, Mapquest for details) hosted by the Belleview/South Marion Chamber of Commerce.

At the moment we have two events secured for October, and a third in negotiations, so around September 20th I should have an announcement for those dates.  You can also follow me on Facebook as well as Google+, and check out our Etsy store for new products on Monday evening.

Hope to see you there, stay awesome and try to be safe this coming week, okay?  We want you to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine of the festivals.

Getting Ready for September!

Hey there Stitchers!  Nick the Stitch here with some awesome news of upcoming events in the North Central Florida area next month!  I've been working hard on pounding pavement, calling up places, and somehow still getting some good inventory ready.  In fact, check this guy out for starters...

mmmmm... candy corn hair elastics!  Great for Halloween or because you're a candy perfume girl!

So here's what I've got so far, just real quick...

September 22nd, 9AM-3PM: Nine Mile Pond Festival (Lake Lillian, Belleview FL).  This is a huge annual event hosted by the Belleview/South Marion County Chamber of Commerce.  Lots of fun crafts, foods, entertainers, it's going to be a blast.

October 6th, 8:00AM-2PM: St. Theresa Roman Catholic Church's Annual Fall Festival (11528 SE US 301 in Belleview FL).  I will be at Booth 51, just look for the blue-top pop-up in the parking lot area (they do have indoor spots, but they were already full).

At the moment, I am working on securing some bi-weekly dates with the Wildwood, FL Farmers' Market by City Hall, starting September 1st.  Should have something confirmed by this Saturday.

Please know that I will likely be ready to work with customers at least a half-hour before and after the event during setup and takedown.  Remember that the early bird gets some cool things.....

And I'm always open to suggestions and invites, just hit me up at NickTheStitch@Gmail.com.  Plus you can grab NTS gear at our Etsy store, you've still got free shipping in the U.S. with code "DOGDAYS2012" until 11:59PM EST on Friday, August 31st, 2012 (but don't worry, Sept 1st we'll have another special).

If you're feeling like you want to "Like" some crazy products, get on our NTS Facebook page or Google+ page!  There's a contest going on right now but you have to be a Facebook friend to qualify to win.  (See previous blog post for details.)

That's it for now, back to work for this lazy corpse!  Thrillah!

First-ever NTS Contest!

Hey Stitchers!  Nick the Stitch here to announce something BIG!  Something SHINY!  And it's NOT a red button!  (Sorry, Stimpy!)  But it could be yours!!!

Okay, here's the deal.

The online Nick The Stitch store has just crossed 100 hits in the last 27 days it's been open, and we've been seeing a lot of love.  I mean, cmon, who wouldn't love this little guy...

or this fellow here...

I mean, cmon, even Voldemort would get mushy at the sight of these pins!

Well, now YOU can win one!  Here's how....

1) If you haven't already, join the Nick The Stitch Facebook Page.  When you do, you'll automatically qualify.  And if you already have joined, great... now get your friends and family to do it too!

2) As of 10:36 PM EST Tuesday, August 21st, 2012, the online store has registered 100 hits (combined store and item hits).  When the store reaches 150 hits (that's 50 hits from now)...

3) ...all of the NTS fans at that time will be put into a random drawing.  So I don't know how soon or how quickly that will be, but you can bet if you're an NTS fan on FB, you'll be getting updates.

4) ONE NTS FB winner will receive ONE PIN of his or her choice, absolutely free, worldwide.  No worries about postage, or shipping, or any of that nonsense, though it will be sent via Post Office.  (Actual value between $6.48 and $24.98, depending on item and destination.)

It's just that simple.  Now here's the disclaimers you need to know so we all play fair...

A) Odds of winning are 1:7,000,000,000.  Joining the NTS fan page as a member does not automatically make you a winner, but it does qualify you as long as you remain a fan during contest.  Should you decide to unlike or leave the NTS page, you will not qualify for contest until you rejoin.

B) Prize is one free pin of winner's selection, to be mailed via postal service to any location worldwide free of charge and shipping.  As such, it is the winner's responsibility to ensure the proper address is given to Nick The Stitch so winner can receive prize in timely manner.

C) Random drawing consisted of blind drawing from a pool of NTS page fans at time of 150 hits being reached.  All others who are not NTS page fans past that event will not qualify, so you might want to join, like, now.

D) We seriously do not know when the 150 hits will be reached, as we do not control the weather or when the dog chews on the sofa.  Hit-stuffing will not help, especially if you're not an NTS Page fan.  So just join and tell your friends and family to join as well.

E) This is a marketing contest designed solely for publicity and NTS awareness and not an endorsement of NTS.  We figured it'd be a great way to get the world to show how cool you look with our stuff on.

That's all!  Now get on it!

Dance, Space Monkey, Dance!

So it's been a very unusual week here at Nick The Stitch.  First we set up a Facebook page for the computer-savvy fans, then we set up a Merchant Circle page for the business-savvy fans, then after 5 days of waiting past when it was supposed to be delivered our business cards arrived.  We were like, "Okay, NOW what?"

Then it teleported itself, right into our hot little hand...

(Well... it's Florida in August.  What, you were expecting Snowmaggeddon?)

"Hello there Earthling!  My name is Dancing Space Monkey, not to be confused with Justin Beiber.  I am here in search of intelligent motorized vehicles."

I looked at Mr. Not-The-Beiber.  "Um, don't you mean 'intelligent life forms'?"

"Nope!  Already got that covered back in Roswell.  And I noticed you have a very wise Ford truck."

I grinned.  "Yeah, she's the best.  She's 15 years old and we've traveled many a long road together."

Dancing Space Monkey got up and did what I guess dancing space monkeys do... the moonwalk.  "I must communicate with this most wisestest of vehicles!"

So I took him to my truck and set him down.

He's been hanging around my truck ever since.

And boy can the little guy bust a move.  Hamma-time!  Check him out here on my Etsy store for more details.  Don't forget... if you want to order him, use code "DOGDAYS2012" til August 31st for free shipping in the U.S. and to give us 2-3 days to make him, he's 28 small parts and a cord.

Until next time!  "Shock the monkey!" -- Peter Gabriel

Pumpkins in your FACE--book!

Hey there Planet Earth, Nick the Stitch here.  Wanted to send you on your way to another amazing weekend with some good vibes and a smile, courtesy of none other than our Grinning Pumpkin King(pin)...

...who never has a bad day.  He's always so happy it makes us need a hug from him too.  You can find this little guy right here, so feel free to check him out and if you know a kid or adult who could use a friend of mischief, he's only $9.99 plus shipping (free shipping in U.S. with code "DOGDAYS2012" until Aug. 31st)

On other important news, we are NOW on Facebook!  Either look us up under "Nick The Stitch" or click here for the NTS Page.  Like us, love us, hate us, we'll still update 2-3 times a week (more often if we get a break from replenishing our stock, these guys go quick I tell you what!)  Plus, I might have prizes for small contests... you never know.......

And even if you're not looking for handcrafted, Halloween cross-stitch hair and clothing accessories, why not bookmark us or, even better, recommend us to people?  We love what we do, and we're also available for custom-orders and we also offer bulk discounts for orders over 50 sets of a design (I'd say "pieces" but the small hair elastics are 2 pieces to a set, hence "set").

Regarding getting out and "kissing hands and shaking babies", we are planning to hit Undergrounds Coffeehaus' September crafting sale.  These guys bring out the coffeenistas and the beatnik flair with movies, racks of books to read and games to play with your soon-to-be-new-friends there, and the coffee's not bad with their desserts either.  Will keep you posted.

Well I gotta get back to production, but please, support the arts regardless of whom the artists are that you support.  We bring beautiful music to a sad world.  Until next time, stay awesome!

Spooky Kitteh and Mrow!

Hello there World Wide Web!  Hope you're having an awesome week so far, I know we are here at Nick The Stitch, home of the most unique and unusual cross-stitched pins and other accessories.  First off, I'd like to thank all of our readers and visitors, including the U.S. and Russia, I love seeing you at my table having a great time. :)

So let's see, what do we have to offer at the moment...  Ah yes!

Okay, so I know we have Halloween coming up real quick as it's August and already the pharmacies and Hell-Mart are getting the advertising stuff up.  And being a huge fan of this wonderful holiday that produced Freddy, Jason, and Ash from Hardwares, we are in production of some very, very cute stuff.

Today's special is Spooky Kitty...

...he's great with kids and adults alike and can help you against bad Tootsie Rolls.  But he has a very, very steep price for his help.  Yes, a most troublesome and fearsome price, one you might not be able to pay...

...your candy corn.  All of it.  Right mrow.  ;)

But seriously, this handcrafted, cross-stitched pin is ready to wear and will bring a smile to all who see it, and it's just $7.99 plus shipping (tho if you use code "DOGDAYS2012" you can get FREE SHIPPING in the U.S.)

Still not sure you want a Spooky Kitty?  Just look at its cute face, those sparkly eyes...

In the next couple of days, we will have a Pumpkin King Pin and a Candy Corn Hair Elastic uploaded and ready to roll.  If you want to know more or see more of what we have, why not hit our store and peek at the goodies.  We have hair accessories, more pins, and car accessories, all at great prices and excellent shipping fees (again, free shipping in the U.S. with code "DOGDAYS2012" until August 31st, 2012).

And if you have a suggestion for a product line or even a custom order, just hit me up at NickTheStitch@Gmail.com and I'll do my voodoo that I do so well.

So until next time, thank you so much for your time and support.  And with holiday season coming up, don't forget... A Nick the Stitch in time, saves you a lot more than a dime!

Got chapstick?

I discovered something amazing and so low-tech.  And it costs about $1.99 and lasts a really, really long time.

For some reason, when I do an excessive amount of cross-stitching, the side of my right index finger gets a nasty separation of the skin.  Kinda like a deep paper cut, but without the paper, and it hurts.  Usually when I don't do stitching for a week, it goes away.

But...

If you have this problem, get a tube of Blistex chapstick and rub it into the cut every couple hours, and if you stay off it for a day or so, it heals really really quickly.  It also works well with cuts you get on joints and bending parts of the body, plus it does well for keeping lips moist too.

Thought I'd share a really crazy tip, because you never really expect these things to work half the time.  And here's something that I want to share that will really make your day...

Back to Business -- Some Thoughts

Where every day is a fantastic opportunity to bring a little sunshine to a weary soul, a sad friend, or a to pep your own step.  And isn't that what we all need, really, in the end?

So I've been working on getting more stock for the Etsy store over the past week, and working on getting the Etsy store where it's easily accessible and noticeable.  So if you happen to be wandering over there and find something cute, kitcshy and cross-stitched, it might likely be a Nick the Stitch creation.  Through our expanded marketing program, we've been adding visibilty for our products and considering we have only been doing it since this morning, things look good.

That being said, we also recognize the fact (and from my experience as a web marketer for various stores and several of my past companies) that it doesn't really matter how cool and flashy and whiz-bangy your online store or website is... even in this day and age of bits and bytes and social media and Google and god knows what else, nothing beats getting out there in person and doing the markets, the fairs, the events, just meeting and talking and showing physical product.

With that in mind, I did want to let you know that I'm working on getting into a farmer's market in Wildwood, FL on the mornings of Saturday, August 11th and 18th from 8AM-12PM.  I say "working" because the guy in charge isn't as proficient at returning calls as most people would have the patience for.  But that's okay.  That's business.  Sometimes you need a little elbow grease and thick skin to do this crafting thing.

That's the one thing I've learned in so many customer-service industries (be it bartending, retail, libraries, insurance, etc.)... you can't let failures and setbacks kill your mojo, otherwise you might want to find another type of gig that doesn't rely on other people (good luck finding one).

I know it sounds easy to grasp, and it is... but it's something that "takes 30 seconds to learn and a lifetime to master."  However, if you manage to put it into your mindset, you can handle almost any issue, difficulty, or struggle.  And trust me, in crafting like any other customer-service industry, you're going to face a LOT of walking Oscar the Grouches.  They're going to nickle-and-dime you.  They're going to treat you like you're a n00b even if you've been doing this for 500 years.  They're going to complain that the colors aren't the right shade, it's too big, too small, too this or that, or they don't like this little guy at all...

Think of these Oscars as practice for international business negotiations, even if you'll never see the inside of a Dubai or Hong Kong corporate headquarters.  And for those of us crafters who learn to not swallow the verbal nonsense but let it blow past, it makes us stand apart from the call-me-maybes.

And if you're an Oscar... what's not to like about that smiley guy?

Just some thoughts.  Keep on smiling.  And don't forget to visit our site and get free shipping with code "DOGDAYS2012" at checkout, no minimums.

A thank-you letter

Dear Chik-Fil-A,

As a businessman myself who has extensively marketed his companies, plus several clients' companies, I can definitely appreciate your stand that this whole debacle isn't about chicken sandwiches but rather "free speech".  And why not?  "Free speech" is great for spreading messages... from community service to having insane people shoot elected officials in public simply for disagreeing with the "message".  This is America, and we can say whatever we want and completely denigrate and discriminate against anyone and get away with it, right?

Well, sir, no, not exactly.

I realize you've been running Chik-Fil-A twice as long as I've been alive (and frankly, your food tastes similar), but I would like to venture a little wisdom from a n00b that has dealt with the people you'd happily not have at your restaurants because they make your straight customers think (which in America these days is a bad thing, apparently).

Gays have money.  TONS of money.  And they shop.  LOVE to shop.  They buy a LOT of EXPENSIVE stuff.  They also make the expensive stuff you happen to like buying, like Ralph Lauren and Versace.  Guess what?  Gay founders.  Unlike you with your food ingredients, gays aren't cheap on getting the materials they use to make the stuff you buy in stores.

So while I will respect your claim to "free speech", as this is still America for now, I am laughing my butt off by making this announcement, right here, right now (and GLBT, pay attention)...

In honor of August 1st's "Chik-Fil-A Intolerance Non-Appreciation Day", Nick the Stitch will be giving everyone, especially GLBT customers, FREE SHIPPING on EVERYTHING on our crafted accessories store, http://www.etsy.com/shop/nickthestitch, complete with FREE 30-day replacement warranty for ALL PINS, for the ENTIRE month of August 2012.  Just hit the store, shop, and at the checkout use coupon code "DOGDAYS2012" for the free shipping (MUST use code for free shipping.)

Now, I know I'm going to be risking a lynching by the conservative readers, but let me share something else with you.  I've been on the receiving end of discrimination for being different, and I'm not gay, so I know what it's like to be told "God loves you" only to find you're excluded because you're not X-enough.  If you don't want to shop a store that promotes equality, honesty, and integrity for all, then please, feel free not to.  It just means more products for everyone else to buy instead.

Sucks to be you, Chik-Fil-A.  Because while you're dreaming of being more than a "Popeye's" podunk snack shack wannabe, I'm banking fast stacks.  But that's okay, that's what "free speech" is for... right?

Sincerely,

Nick The Stitch
